DCYF Update 4/23/18

4/23/18 UPDATE

HOW DID WE GET HERE?

Governor Inslee signed HB 1661 in July of 2017 creating the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF).

  • July 1, 2018 DSHS/CA and DEL will merge to form the new DCYF. Multiple reports to the legislature are due in November and December of 2018. This will inform the decision making about the addition of DSHS/JR to DCYF. It is important to note that the law is written to include DSHS/JR effective in 2019. You can find more information about the timeline here: https://www.dcyf.wa.gov/oiaa/timeline-deliverables-hb-1661.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED SO FAR?

 WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW?

Our Union bargaining team met with the employer for the second time today over the many facets of implementing this new agency. Today’s session focused on new agency policies, establishing the process for an agency VEBA vote, and creating the layoff unit. Signed agreements were reached on VEBA and the layoff unit. We will continue bargaining over several meetings and months to discuss or bargain over many things such as work locations and critical agency policies. Our Union bargaining team is Cynthia Marcyes, Damon Corrigan and Rita Swanson from DEL, Sandra Hilzendeger and Joyce Murphy from DSHS/CA, Gabe Hall from DSHS/JR, WFSE President Sue Henricksen, and WFSE Staff Laura Hartless and Amy Spiegel.
